Review by Toxic Pete:

Love it! Love it! I absolutely love it!!
Right up my proverbial strasse. Dan Geesin, born in London, now residing in Amsterdam (maybe that tells me something!), calls his majestic musical extravaganza 'acid folk' - I can dig that. Imagine Syd Barrett bumping into Kevin Ayres - they then go for a spliff with Robert Wyatt who takes them to meet Nico (who happens to have her harmonium with her) at Richard Thompson's house - together this intrepid musical collective decide to write some totally new (acid) folk based songs to play at the local (weird) folk club. They take with them not much more than a couple of harmoniums and the odd saucepan or two and something to hit them with. Well, that's sort of where Dan Geesin is! And it's wonderful!
Geesin, this extraordinary guy, is nothing short of a genius, contemporary poet who sets his words to simplistic accompaniment of the traditional, yet unfortunately seldom used harmonium. The result is startling! Within ten seconds of the opening track, 'Prefered Rhythm', Geesin had me smiling. By twenty seconds into track two, 'Bingo Boom Bang', he had me hooked. By track three, 'Little Car Go', I was enthralled. At the end of track twenty, 'Puddle Of People', I felt exhausted, totally spent - Dan Geesin had worn me out with his musical folk poetry - poetry that Roger McGough or John Lennon would have been proud to have written. Magical stuff!! F**k me, how good it this?
Ok, so I'm a bit weird. Nowt wrong with that is there? If we all walked down the road the same way, we'd never meet anyone (my Dad said that!). Just coz Dan Geesin's chosen to be creative in a very unusual way it doesn't mean it's unacceptable - far from it, it's bloody great! And, if I were to die tomorrow, I'd at least die happy and with a smile on my face after experiencing, yes experiencing, 'Fat Face' by Dan Geesin. If Geesin could just get the right contacts he could take this to places he's probably never even dreamed of. Yes it's acid folk alright! Probably the most enjoyable album I've heard for absolutely donkey's trousers! It's people like Dan Geesin that keep music very much alive - more of the same please.
